At Socium Coatings, delivering consistent, high-quality work takes more than materials and equipment—it takes leadership, coordination, and deep knowledge of each project. Our superintendents play a critical role in ensuring that every job runs smoothly and lives up to our standards. Today, we take you behind the scenes with Gabriel Leyva, one of our superintendents, to see what a typical day looks like and how he helps keep projects on track.

Starting the Day: Communication First

No two days are exactly the same, but Gabriel’s mornings always start with communication. “I get calls from painters who need materials ordered or information about a project. I also get urgent calls from general contractors or the paint store asking for purchase approvals,” he explains.

Each call helps him prioritize the day’s schedule. If something urgent comes up the day before, it goes to the top of his list for the next morning. Flexibility and quick response are essential in his role.

Responsibilities on Site

As a superintendent, Gabriel’s main responsibility is ensuring quality on every project. “I make sure the quality is excellent and talk with the general contractor if they need anything or have questions,” he says.

His approach is proactive. He walks the project with the foreman, checks progress against the schedule, and performs pre-punch inspections to catch issues early. When adjustments are needed—like adding more crew—he takes quick action, calling subcontractors to get additional support onsite.

Keeping Projects on Track

Urgency is part of the job. When general contractors reach out with last-minute needs, Gabriel coordinates directly with foremen and subcontractors to find immediate solutions. “I stay in constant communication with the GC and our crews to make sure everything stays on track,” he shares.

This hands-on coordination helps maintain momentum, avoid delays, and reinforce Socium’s commitment to responsiveness and excellence.

Safety, Perception, and Purpose

Safety is a non-negotiable part of every project. Gabriel ensures compliance by staying in close contact with both our teams and the GC. But beyond protocols, he faces a common misconception: “People see me walking the site and think I’m just taking pictures, that I don’t know how to paint.”

In reality, Gabriel’s deep field knowledge and leadership are critical. He’s not just overseeing progress—he’s actively guiding it with experience, accountability, and a sharp eye for quality.

Socium Values in Action

Socium’s core values—consistency, competency, and character—are present in Gabriel’s work every day. “Communication and transparency with the client are key. We want them to know Socium is here to support them,” he says.

That mindset drives everything from the first call of the day to the final walkthrough. It’s what ensures that every project reflects the standards our clients trust—and the values we stand by.
