In 2025, Socium Coatings proudly completed the exterior restoration of the historic H.M. Patterson Funeral Home & Gardens, a significant architectural landmark located at the corner of Spring and 10th Streets in Midtown Atlanta. Originally built in 1928 and officially designated a City of Atlanta historic landmark in 2018, the building—now known as Spring Hill Chapel—is an enduring example of Tudor Revival architecture and the legacy of renowned architect Philip Shutze.
This project was completed as part of the larger 1020 Spring Office Building development, where Socium Coatings partnered with JE Dunn Construction to ensure both preservation and modernization were approached with care and precision.

Honoring History Through Craftsmanship
The scope of our work focused solely on the exterior, a critical aspect of the building’s preserved status. Our team was responsible for:
-
Painting all siding surfaces
-
Coating the brick exterior
-
Refinishing entry doors and frames
-
Restoring window shutters
Because the City of Atlanta’s landmark status protects only the exterior and gardens of the property, each surface was treated with a high level of respect and attention to detail. Our goal was to deliver a finish that preserves the building’s historical integrity while offering long-term durability.

Why It Matters
Over the years, the H.M. Patterson building has served as a setting for memorial services honoring many prominent Atlantans, including author Margaret Mitchell and former mayors Ivan Allen Jr. and William Hartsfield. Its preservation speaks to the broader effort to retain Midtown’s architectural identity amid rapid development.
At Socium Coatings, we take pride in contributing to this effort—bringing decades of coatings expertise to projects where heritage and performance must go hand-in-hand. Collaborating with JE Dunn on the 1020 Spring development provided an opportunity to support not only new construction but also the thoughtful preservation of Atlanta’s past.
Commitment to Craft. Respect for Legacy.
Socium Coatings is committed to delivering quality outcomes across a wide range of sectors—from historical restoration to airports, healthcare, government, mission-critical environments, and beyond.
Projects like this remind us that coatings are more than just finishes—they’re part of a larger story. We’re proud to have played a role in this chapter of Midtown’s evolving landscape.
